# Pixel segment

The segment type populated by users who load an invisible pixel on your pages.

## What it is

A **Pixel segment** is automatically populated with any user that hits an invisible pixel provided by mediarithmics. You place the pixel on a page; whoever loads that page joins the segment.

It is the shortest path from "this page matters to me" to an audience, because it needs no query and no schema knowledge - only the ability to paste a snippet where you want it.

## What is specific to this type

* **The snippet is generated for you.** It appears at the bottom of the segment's configuration page once the segment is saved.
* **Default lifetime applies.** Users leave the segment that long after entering it, which is how you keep a pixel-fed audience from growing indefinitely.
* **It is always persisted.**

See [Segment properties](/audience-and-activation/build-your-audiences/segment-reference.md#segment-properties).

## Creating one

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Choose the type

In the segment creation wizard, select **User Pixel** under *Other segment types*.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Name it

Give the segment a name, and fill in the optional fields if you want them.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Save, then collect the snippet

Click **Save**. A code snippet appears at the bottom of the configuration page. Paste it on the pages whose visitors should join the segment.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.mediarithmics.io/audience-and-activation/build-your-audiences/segment-reference/segment-types/pixel-segment.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
